संत नामदेव यांचा जन्म सातारा जिल्ह्यातील नरसी या गावी 26 ऑक्टोबर 1270 रोजी झाला. त्यांच्या वडिलांचे नाव दामाशेटी तर आईचे नाव गोणाई असे होते. संत नामदेव यांचे गुरूंचे नाव विसोबा खेचर असे होते. संत नामदेव विठ्ठलाचे निस्सीम भक्त होते. त्यांनी अभंग,कीर्तने रचून जनतेत जागृती निर्माण केली. भागवत धर्माच्या प्रसारासाठी त्यांनी महाराष्ट्रभर भ्रमण केले त्यांनी लोकांना भक्तीची शिकवण दिली. धर्मरक्षणाचा व भक्तिमार्गाचा खंबीर निर्धार लोकांच्या मनात निर्माण केला. संत नामदेवांनी भारतभर मानव धर्माचा संदेश पोहोचवला. ते पंजाबात गेले असता तेथील लोकांना त्यांनी समतेचा संदेश दिला, हिंदी भाषेत पदे लिहिली त्यांची पदे शीख लोकांच्या 'गुरुग्रंथसाहिब 'या धर्मग्रंथात समाविष्ट आहेत. गुरु ग्रंथसाहिब या ग्रंथात त्यांची 61 पदे,3 श्लोक व 18 राग आढळून येतात. संत नामदेव यांना संत शिरोमणी या नावाने देखील ओळखले जाते. संत नामदेव यांचा मृत्यू 3 जुलै 1350 रोजी पंढरपूर येथे झाला.

Saint Namdev

Saint Namdev was born on 26 October 1270 in the village of Narsi in Satara district. His father's name was Damasheti and his mother's name was Gonai. Saint Namdev's guru's name was Visoba Khechar. Saint Namdev was an ardent devotee of Vitthal. He created awareness among the masses by composing Abhang, Kirtan. He traveled all over Maharashtra to spread Bhagwat Dharma and taught devotion to the people. He created a strong determination in the minds of the people for the protection of Dharma and the path of devotion. Saint Namdeo spread the message of human religion all over India. When he went to Punjab, he gave a message of equality to the people there. He wrote verses in Hindi. His verses are included in the Sikh scripture 'Gurugranth Sahib'. Guru Granth Sahib contains 61 verses, 3 verses and 18 ragas. Saint Namdev is also known as Saint Shiromani. Saint Namdev died on 3rd July 1350 at Pandharpur.
