उंट

               

         भारताच्या वाळवंटी प्रदेशात मोठ्या प्रमाणावर सापडणारा प्राणी म्हणजे उंट. भारतात राजस्थान या भागात उंट आढळतो. हा एक पाळीव प्राणी आहे.            वाळवंटी प्रदेशात अतिशय उपयुक्त असा हा प्राणी आहे, ओझे वाहण्यासाठी, सवारी करण्यासाठी, शेतीकामासाठी, युद्धात, उंटाचा वापर केला जातो. उंटाला ' वाळवंटातील जहाज ' असे म्हटले जाते.

        उंटाला चार पाय, दोन डोळे, शेपटी व पाठीवर कुबड असते. उंटाला 34 दात असतात. उंटाचे गुडघे आणि मान कडक असते. उंटाची मान व पाय लांब असतात, त्यामुळे उंचावरील पाला तो सहज खाऊ शकतो. उंटाची पावलं पसरट असतात त्यामुळे त्याला वाळवंटात चालण्याचा त्रास होत नाही. 

        उंटाचे ओठ जाड असतात तो वाळवंटातील काटेरी झाडा झुडपांची पाने खाऊ शकतो. उंट एका दिवसात 36 लिटर पाणी पितो. उंटाच्या पोटात एक मोठी पिशवी असते तिला मदारी म्हणतात. त्यात तो अन्न व पाणी साठवतो. उंट अन्न चरबीच्या रूपात वशिंडा मध्ये साठवून ठेवतो आणि कमतरता आल्यावर त्यातून आपली अन्नाची गरज भागवतो.

           उंटाचे दूध पिण्यासाठी वापरले जाते. उंटाच्या धावण्याचा वेग 65 किलोमीटर प्रतितास असतो.

उंटाच्या केसापासून वस्त्रोद्योग केला जातो. उंटांच्या केसांपासून काही विशिष्ट प्रकारची औद्योगिक वस्त्रे बनविली जातात. उंटाच्या केसापासून लोकर, दोरी, कोट इत्यादी तयार केले जातात.

उंटाची पाणी न पिण्याची तसेच चरबी साठवून ठेवण्याची क्षमता यामुळे तो वाळवंटी भागातील आदर्श वाहन बनतो.

It is used for drinking camel's milk.The running speed of a camel is 65 kilometers per hour. Certain types of industrial garments are made from camel hair. Wool, rope, coat etc. are made from camel hair.

 The camel's ability to drink water and store fat makes it an ideal vehicle in desert areas.
